The City of Bell Gardens is seeking highly motivated and public service-oriented individuals for the position of Recreation Leader III and Recreation Leader IV.
RECREATION & COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENTThe City of Bell Gardens Recreation & Community Services Department's vision is to create community through people, parks, and programs.
Our focus is to provide a safe and fun learning environment for the residents of Bell Gardens to enjoy.
Our department is led by a diverse and knowledgeable staff that truly loves recreation and giving back to the community they serve.
PROGRAMS:
Areas of work may include Senior Services, Community Services, Youth Services, Sports, After School Programs, and Department Administration.
SCHEDULE:
20 to 28 hours per week.
Individuals in these positions should be available to work a varying schedule of hours which may include mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
RECREATION LEADER IIIMINIMUM & DESIRABLE
Qualifications:
Equivalent to sixty (60) semester units of college education working towards a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with emphasis in Public Administration, Recreation or a closely related field orEquivalent to two (2) years of work experience in Recreation and Community Services.
Ability to effectively deal with the public, communicate orally and in writing, and follow directions.
Direct experience in leadership, volunteer work, or recreation activities is required.
LICENSE(S) AND CERTIFICATE(S):
Valid and current California driver's license and A.

C.
Standard First Aid and CPR certification.
DUTIES:
Assist in implementing of recreation programs and activities, including games, sports, and tournaments; assists in a variety of tasks including moving and setting up equipment; may work as a scorekeeper or youth sports official, may also work with seniors, children, as a day camp leader, and after school program leader; will prepare and maintain accurate written reports and records; clerical tasks; assist with the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies; schedule and monitor equipment use; assist with City events; assist in field and park maintenance and other duties as assigned; will display courteous and professional behavior toward the public and staff; observes and enforces all City safety rules and regulations.
Under general supervision, assist in the day-to-day operation of the Recreation and Community Services Department conducting/leading a variety of recreation activities at an assigned facility as part of a broad program of community recreation, park, and leisure services, three sites for learning centers and perform work as required.
RECREATION LEADER IVMINIMUM & DESIRABLE
Qualifications:

DUTIES:
Assists with the development and implementation of recreation and community service programs and applicable budgets; prepares oral and written reports; assists with reducing safety hazards by effectively communicating with supervisors and creating reports; responsible for supervision of staff members' proper handling of supplies and funds; prepares/reviews accident/incident reports and other reports or administrative memorandums associated with programs in a timely manner; responsible for conduct of program participants and support staff; may transport program supplies and materials in City vehicle; participates in team approach to department tasks, responds to management directives, follows professional protocol and coordinates work with other department staff as needed.
